Valdres International Baroque Course

This is a course for string players at an international top level within their age group who wants to learn and work with one of Europe's leading baroque musicians. The course will give an introduction to playing and understanding baroque style. The participants play together in a baroque ensemble. The ensemble will rehearse the repertoire and play a concert in Valdres, before taking the repertoire to The Varaždin Baroque Evening Festival in Croatia, 22-25 September 2024.

The participants play modern instruments.

Participants born 2006-2008:

5 first violins
5 second violins
4 violas
3 cello
1 double bass

The course takes place in the 1st course period, 21 - 26 June 2024.

Course details

  • Baroque ensemble
  • Play at open masterclass with Laura Vadjon or festival artist
  • Possibility of solo performance at a concert
  • Play at the final concert with participants from the same course

  • Participants live at Valdres folkehøgskole.

Criterias

  • Instruments: violin, viola, cello and doublebass
  • Processing of application requires application fee to be paid in advance (300 NOK) 
  • Course participation requires the course fee to be paid in full ahead of course period 
  • Applicants must submit a recording of a self-selected movement from a standard concerto (or movement/piece with equivalent degree of difficulty). It may be a live recording, a recording made for a competition or a new recording made for the occation. The recording must not be older that 12 months. Link to the recording must be included in the application form.
  • Valdres sommersymfoni reserves the right to make selections based on the information provided in the application form and recordings.
