Judith Ingolfsson

Violinist Judith Ingolfsson has built a distinguished international career as both performer and educator. She is a Gold Medalist of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis and a prizewinner of the Premio Paganini Competition in Genoa and the Concert Artists Guild Competition in New York. These successes launched her international career, leading to solo appearances with major orchestras including The Philadelphia Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, the Budapest Philharmonic, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Tokyo.

An active chamber musician, she performs worldwide and forms the Duo Ingolfsson–Stoupel with pianist Vladimir Stoupel, acclaimed for its innovative programming and interpretations of rarely performed 20th-century repertoire.

A dedicated teacher, Ingolfsson serves as Professor of Violin at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, following earlier professorships at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart and the University of Colorado Boulder. She regularly teaches masterclasses at leading international festivals and academies, and her students hold positions in major ensembles such as the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, and the Bamberger Symphoniker.

Born in Reykjavík, Iceland, Ingolfsson began violin studies at three and entered the Curtis Institute of Music at fourteen, studying with Jascha Brodsky. She earned her Master of Music and Artist Diploma degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with David Cerone and Donald Weilerstein. With fourteen acclaimed recordings to her credit, Ingolfsson’s discography reflects her wide-ranging musical interests and commitment to artistic excellence.
