Andreas Nøstrud Grimstad (Norway) is one of Norway’s most exciting young violists. He studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Lars Anders Tomter and Peter Herresthal and is a scholarship holder with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. In recent years, he has established himself as an outstanding chamber musician through performances at festivals including the Bergen International Festival, Risør Chamber Music Festival, Hemsing Festival, Fjord Classics, and several international festivals across Europe.
Andreas has received numerous prizes and scholarships, including first prizes in the Midgard Competition and the Norwegian Youth Music Championship, as well as the Dream Scholarship (Drømmestipendet) and grants from the Dobloug Foundation and Sparebank 1 Østlandet. In 2023, he was a semifinalist in the international Oskar Nedbal International Viola Competition in Prague, and in 2026 he was admitted to the prestigious Artist Diploma programme at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
As a musician, he moves seamlessly between chamber music, solo projects, and orchestral performance, collaborating with leading Norwegian and international artists. Andreas describes Papillon as a valuable opportunity at a stage in his career where he is actively shaping his own artistic identity. He highlights how the programme can become “an important next step” in his development as a chamber musician, soloist, and orchestral player.
