Ung Filharmoni
Shostakovich's Symphony no. 5
Ung Filharmoni returns to Valdres Summer Symphony after the overwhelming reception and standing ovation during the opening in 2025. This year, the orchestra invites you to a magnificent summer evening at Beitohallen, where Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 is on the program – one of the most striking and moving orchestral works of the 20th century. The symphony combines dramatic power and intense emotional tension, providing an ideal canvas for the combination of youthful energy and musical maturity that characterizes Ung Filharmoni.
The evening's conductor, Finland's Kristian Sallinen, is one of the most remarkable young talents on the international orchestral scene. With natural authority, precision, and an infectious musical presence, he has already made a name for himself with leading orchestras in the Nordic countries and Europe. The 2025/26 season offers a number of prestigious debuts, including with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Finnish National Opera, as well as collaborations with top soloists such as Maxim Vengerov. Sallinen has a broad repertoire ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary music, and he is a committed advocate of Nordic composers.
When he conducts the Ung Filharmoni in June, the audience can look forward to a concert characterized by energy, precision, and musical intensity at the highest level.
