Aurdalsåsen hike with Tove and Odd
A journey in step and out of step
Welcome to a journey where nature, history, and informal communication come together as a trio. During Valdres sommersymfoni 2026, we pack our backpacks and set out on a mountain farm hike on Aurdalsåsen together with Tove Skjelstad and Odd Sagbråten—two guides who know every rock, trail, and mountain farm dream better than most.
Tove and Odd are the authors of the book Til støls på Aurdalsåsen – en historisk vandring (To the mountain farms on Aurdalsåsen – a historical hike), and it shows: they offer stories you won't find in any ordinary hiking map. Here you get cultural history, local insight, and little stories that give the hike just the right rhythm. This is the hike for you if you like to learn something new while you walk – and don't mind a couple of spontaneous stories popping up between spruce branches and rowan leaves.
Aurdalsåsen is full of old mountain farms that still stand and remind us of everything they have been through. Some are ramshackle, some are proud – all have character. It is nature that does not try to impress, but does so nonetheless. And whether you come from the north, the south, or just across the road: you will be impressed. We just mention it.
The hike is suitable for most people; the pace is pleasant, and so is the atmosphere. We don't promise a dramatic mountain marathon or spiritual revelations in nature – but we do promise a trip that is authentically Valdres, with good stories, warm smiles, and a little musical pulse in the background of the whole experience.
