Opera at Vesleøya
The singers are returning to Vesleøya again this year, and this time the more established stars will be joined by a troupe of young opera singers in top form, ready to fill the island with everything from mischievous duets to grand emotions and bubbling energy. They will welcome you with a show filled with playfulness and seriousness, well-known arias and ensembles, and a few well-aimed surprises.
We begin in the Norwegian fairy tale land, where mountain girls, Peer and Solveig appear as if they have always lived on Vesleøya. But it isn't long before Orlovsky from Die Fledermaus invites everyone to a party, champagne corks pop, and Vilja lures the forest spirits out of the bushes. Perhaps Porgy and Bess will drop by, and perhaps someone will try to keep track of the winds of love in Così fan tutte – without much success.
Somewhere between Jonathan Dove's wedding chaos, Tosca's great confession, and the Queen of the Night's thunder and lightning, the backyard cats begin to meow louder and louder... and when Geirr Tveitt's Bakanal is finally unleashed, it's not at all certain that Jeppe will be able to stay away.
It will be an evening full of encounters that no one quite knows where they will end up – playful, musical, and suitably unpredictable. Just the way we like it at Vesleøya.
