In this master class, the audience will have the opportunity to follow the interaction between an experienced top musician and some of the country's most promising young performers. The process is open and lively – musical ideas are shared, shaped and developed in the moment, and the audience gets a rare insight into how artistic choices arise, are challenged and take shape in the encounter between teacher and student.
Troels Svane is one of the Nordic region's most renowned cello teachers and performers. He was appointed assistant principal cellist of the Copenhagen Philharmonic at the age of 18 and has since enjoyed an international career as a soloist, chamber musician, and master class teacher. He has collaborated with a long list of leading musicians – including Yuri Bashmet, Zakhar Bron, Sabine Meyer, and Elisabeth Leonskaja – and has performed throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, and the United States.
As a teacher, Svane has made his mark as a professor at the Musikhochschule Lübeck and also teaches at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. He is a highly sought-after master class teacher internationally, and his students have won prizes at some of the world's most prestigious competitions, including ARD, Geneva, Isang Yun, Rostropovich, and Tchaikovsky.
This master class gives the audience the opportunity to experience one of Europe's most influential cello teachers working closely with young musicians – an encounter filled with insight, musicality, and genuine artistic immersion.
