Traveling from London to perform Grieg in the very footsteps he once walked

Two young musicians are coming from London and one from Sweden to participate when Valdres Summer Symphony and Tyinholmen invite you to a classical concert at the foot of Skinneggen.

Grieg in Jotunheimen

Edvard Grieg climbed the mountain Skinneggen in 1886 together with the poet Holger Drachmann. He described the journey as a source of renewed energy and “fresh inspiration for work.” Nearly 140 years later, the same mountain forms the backdrop for a classical concert at Tyinholmen.

Young Musicians from Abroad

On Saturday, September 6 at 5:30 PM, the concert takes place in the main hall at Tyinholmen. On stage are three young musicians from the Valdres Summer Symphony’s Papillon program:

  • Frida Leanne Rogn (cello), traveling from London

  • Andreas Alexander Martinsen (violin), also traveling from London

  • Nikita Khnykin (piano), traveling from Sweden

All three are pursuing advanced studies abroad, and the program features works by Grieg as well as several other composers.

A Long-Held Wish

– We have wanted to hold a concert at Tyinholmen for a long time, but we couldn’t fit it into the main program. Grieg is beloved by audiences, and the location is stunning. That’s why we still want to give people the chance to experience Grieg in the areas he himself explored, says Mona Kleven, director of the Valdres Summer Symphony.

For the hosts at Tyinholmen, the concert is also about connecting the music to the site’s cultural history.

– When we arrived at Tyinholmen three years ago, we were fascinated by its history. With Kitty Kielland and Erik Werenskiold on the guest list, Vinjestova as a neighbor, and not least the fact that Grieg had climbed Skinneggen, we thought this had to be a place for classical music. It is therefore a great pleasure that we can now, in collaboration with Valdres Summer Symphony, invite audiences to a concert in our main hall, says Runar Malkenes in Tyinholmen.
