Extra concert at the Castle: – One of the festival’s highlights

The concerts Natt på Slottet (Night at the Castle) sold out shortly after their launch. Now Valdres Summer Symphony is responding to public demand by adding an extra concert at the end of June.

On Sunday 29 June at 6 PM the audience is invited to Natt på Slottet – 3, an additional performance that promises to be one of the festival’s musical highlights.

– There have been so many people contacting us saying they didn’t manage to get tickets. We’re incredibly happy to offer them another chance, says Mona Kleven, the festival director.

From Dream to Reality – in a Pavilion

The original idea was to hold the concert inside the Castle – the already historic building constructed by Norbert Kühn, well known in Valdres for his innovative visions. However, transforming the rooms into a concert hall would have required extensive rearrangement – something Kühn wanted to avoid to preserve the venue’s authentic character.

– It would have meant major rearrangements, and we didn’t want that. The interior should remain as it is. That’s why we chose to build a separate pavilion for the concerts, Kühn explains.

Although the concert takes place in the pavilion, an exclusive tour of the Castle remains part of the experience. What will the audience see? Both Norbert Kühn himself and his staff will lead the tours – and what they choose to show remains to be seen.

Prize Winners from Wigmore Hall

The music will be no less impressive than the surroundings. On stage that evening will be the award-winning string quartet Opus13, which recently took home six prizes – including first place – from the prestigious Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition 2025.

They will be joined by top artists such as David Meier, Nora Taksdal, and Sytske Pas. Together, they will perform works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert in beautiful surroundings – with shining chandeliers and views over the scenic landscape.

Festival Bus Makes the Journey Easy and Social

To ensure the audience enjoys the full experience – from the first note to the last chord – festival buses are arranged in collaboration with JVB.

– In addition to being environmentally friendly, the bus ride is a social and pleasant part of the evening, says Mona Kleven.

She also reminds everyone of one important detail:

– Remember to book tickets in advance – both for the concert and the bus. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to buy tickets onboard.
