After winning the Gold Prize in the international singing competition K-Gagok Superstar in South Korea, she is now returning home – bringing with her both experience from some of the world’s greatest stages and a voice that has moved millions.
Strong international competition
Only thirteen vocalists from eleven countries – out of a total of 228 applicants from 45 nations – were selected for the finals of K-Gagok Superstar. Among them was Hanne Marit Mordal Iversen, who not only represented Norway but went all the way to the top and won the Gold Prize. In the final, she performed Korean art songs in the original language and was praised for both her musicality and linguistic precision. The competition, which was broadcast on Korean television, has made her a well-known name far beyond Norway’s borders.
– What started as a casual tip from Marianne Beate Kielland turned into the adventure of the year. Korea is far from home in many ways, but I had the most incredible experiences there – from the food we had every day, to the big TV production of the final, meeting the legendary Sumi Jo, getting to know Korean classical singers, and performing in the Lotte Concert Hall! It was an amazing journey, and I’m so grateful and happy to have done it, says Iversen.

Details still under wraps
The festival management is still keeping their cards close to their chest regarding which concerts Iversen will perform in during Valdres sommersymfoni next year. But one thing is certain: this will be an event you don’t want to miss.
When the program is released, make sure to be quick on the ticket button – with a soprano who has impressed both Asia and Europe, there’s every reason to secure your seat in the hall.
