Ung Filharmoni is a unique program for young classical musicians up to the age of 21 who dream of becoming professional orchestra musicians. Through national auditions, an orchestra of nearly 80 young musicians is assembled. They first gather for an intensive rehearsal period in the summer, where they work on a major orchestral work under the baton of a high-profile conductor. Parallel to the orchestra rehearsals, the participants receive instruction and guidance from musicians from the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.
In the fall, the orchestra meets again for a project week at the Oslo Concert Hall, where they share the podium with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in an extra-large symphony orchestra. The fall gathering concludes with a concert for a packed Oslo Concert Hall on Thursday in week 40.
Through interaction with professional musicians, participants have a unique opportunity to develop both personally and musically. Meeting some of the foremost performers in Norwegian music, they gain experience of what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
The program is owned and run by the Barratt Due Music Institute and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and aims to enable young talents to succeed as performers in tomorrow's music scene – through experience, mastery, and inspiration.
The Young Philharmonic is supported by Talent Norge, Sparebankstiftelsen DNB, and the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation.
