Eldbjørg Hemsing is one of Norway's foremost violinists and made her debut as a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 11. She has since made a name for herself internationally and is playing this season with, among others, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
She has previously been a soloist with orchestras such as the Vancouver Symphony and Hong Kong Philharmonic, and she has brought to prominence the forgotten violin concerto by Hjalmar Borgstrøm. Hemsing has released several critically acclaimed recordings, including Grieg's violin sonatas and works by Shostakovich.
She has a broad repertoire and collaborates closely with composer Tan Dun. As a chamber musician, she has participated in festivals such as Verbier and her own Hemsing Festival. In addition, she is involved in community projects and mentoring programmes for young musicians.
Hemsing grew up in Valdres and studied at Barratt Due in Oslo and with Boris Kuschnir in Vienna.
