Sigyn Fossnes

Violinist Sigyn Fossnes is an associate professor at the Barratt Due Music Institute where she teaches at the department for Young Talents, is a conductor of the Barratt Due Junior Ensemble and teaches violin didactics. Her ideas for developing instrumental and musical diversity have created fertile ground for playfulness, creativity and curiosity. She has been a teacher at Valdres Summer Symphony for a number of years, and from 2011 she has been a Resident Musician at Musicfest in Wales. She is in demand as a lecturer and regularly holds master classes in the Nordic countries, Portugal, Hanoi, Brazil and annually at the Chetham School of Music in Manchester.
Sigyn Fossnes is a trained violinist from the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music, London. Fossne's first solo CD with pianist Einar Henning Smebye was launched during ULTIMA 2005, and on this basis she received the award as Performer of the Year 2005 by the Norwegian Composers' Association. She was also nominated for the Spellemann Prize 2005 for this CD, which received particularly good reviews, and she has also launched the CD among others. a. in Paris, London and Rome. Together with pianist Else Olsen S., she launched her CD: LOTTO SEL at the Bergen Festival 2010.


Sigyn Fossnes was employed by the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra 1994-97, and in recent years has been an active chamber musician in a number of ensembles; among others Ensemble Ernst and Ametri string quartet, which was nominated for the Spellemann Prize in 2002.
