Course description

This course is for young, interested string-players who find pleasure in engaging in classical music, both on their own and with others. 

The course will be split up into two groups; string course junior and string course.

String course junior, born 2011 or later.

String course, born 2009 or later.

Valdres summer symphony reserves the right to assemble the course and it's participants in accordans with the information given in the application form as well as the submited recording. 

The string course will take place in our 1. course period; June 19th - 24th 2020.

(NB: The teaching will be in norwegian) 

Course details

Course content

  • Daily one-to-one lessons (30 minutes)
  • Daily group activity and orchestra
  • Performance at a course concert (provided correctly information in the confirmationform, before the given day as announced in the letter of admission)
  • Free admission to a given number of festival concerts, as well as all course conserts
  • Final concert
  • Free double bass election classes
  • The course- and festival ground offers plenty of extra curricular activities such as soccer, volleyball, chess and swimming (in company with adults)

Criteria for participation

  • Instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello and Double-base
  • Recommended minimum level for string course junior, corresponds with;
    • Violin: Humoresque by Dvorak and Rieding i h-minor.
    • Viola: Humoresque by Dvorak.
    • Cello: La Cinquaintaine av Gabriel Marie and Sonate i C-Dur, 1. mvt by Breval
    • Double bass: French folktune (Suzuki)/Music box (George Vance vol 1). Have to be able to play 3rd position and down as well as Alle participants have to be able to read music
  • Recommended minimum level for stringcourse corresponds with;
    • Violin: Rieding hungarian, The boy Paganini. Play in 1. 3. and th position
    • Viola: Telemann viola concerto and The boy Paganini
    • Cello: Breval, Sonata in F-major, 1. mvt and Bourrée by Squire
    • Double bass: The happy farmer by R. Schumann (Suzuki vol.2 and George Vance vol. 2). Have to be able to play up to 4th position, string crossings and different bow techniques.
    • Everyone must be able to read music well
  • A guardian MUST accompany all participants born in 2009 or later. Several participants can share one guardian. The guardian has to be privy to the fact that minor tasks can be demanded during the course
  • The application will not be considered unless the application fee of 300 NOK has been paid
  • Participation requires that the fees have been paid in full before the course starts
  • All applicants must submit a recording of a self-chosen piece, 1-3 min. The video must be added in the application form
