Zoran Marković

Festival artist, double bass
Zoran Markovic

Zoran was born in Montenegro in 1965. He began playing the accordeon when he was 6 years old. "My parents hoped it would keep me out of trouble, but I switched to double bass when I was 14 because I wanted a bigger instrument and to play more serious music. At the time I didn't know how much it would change my life to the better."

He studied at the university in Beograd and Venice, Cremona, Munich and Salzburg before he settled in Ljubljana. He performes in Slovenia and abroad as a soloist, with orchestras and in ensembles. He is a regular guest at the Slovenian Radio Orchestra. He teaches at the Music Academy in Ljubljana and gives master classes around the world. He is the founder and managing director at ZMT Tailpiece.

Zoran says he is happiest when he plays chamber music. He plays on an 1800 century double bass from Bologna.
