Gnist is a program for young, dedicated string players with great capacity and the goal of developing both individually and in collaboration with others. The focus will be to give the participants experiences in various ensembles, individual lessons, as well as concert experience both individually and with others. The teachers are highly dedicated musicians and pedagogues who are particularly skilled working with children and young musicians.

Gnist takes place in the 2nd course period; June 28th - July 3rd 2023.
Course details
- Total number of participants: 24
- Daily private lessons (40 min)
- Daily rehearsals in various ensembles. Chamber music is an integrated part of this course
- Performance at a course concert (provided correct registration has been completed within the stated deadline)
- Performance at the final concert with participants from the Gnist course
- Possibility for MITOP electives (NOK 500)
- Free access to selected festival concerts, as well as all course concerts
- The course area offers possibility for activities such as football, chess and swimming (in consultation, and under the supervision of parents/adults)
- The subsidized course fee is set at NOK. 6,400 * for participants under the age of 18. This covers all lessons and concerts, as well as board and lodging at Valdres folkehøgskole. The registration fee is NOK. 300,-
Criterias
- Instrument: Violin, viola, cello and double bass
- Processing of application requires application fee to be paid in advance (300 NOK)
- Course participation requires the course fee to be paid in full ahead of course period
- All participants born in 2012 or later MUST be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The parent/guardian agrees that minor tasks may be requested during the course
- All applicants to Gnist must submit a recording of a self-selected work and a short video in which they present themselves and their motivation for applying for Gnist. Both videos needs to be included in the application form
